PM Modi Arrives In Melbourne; Says Australia Visit Will Add Vigour To Bilateral Ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Melbourne late Wednesday evening (Australian time) on the second leg of his three-nation tour, saying his visit would add vigour to the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

After landing in Melbourne, PM Modi said he looked forward to holding talks with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and interacting with the Indian diaspora, describing the community as an important pillar of the bilateral relationship.

During the visit, PM Modi will co-chair the 3rd Annual Summit with Prime Minister Albanese and engage with key stakeholders to deepen cooperation across sectors of mutual interest.

Besides bilateral discussions with the Australian Prime Minister, he will also call on Governor-General Sam Mostyn.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to participate in the India-Australia CEOs Forum, address leading business leaders from both countries, and interact with a large gathering of the Indian diaspora in Melbourne.

Ahead of the visit, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described India as a key economic partner, noting that the relationship has never been more consequential and contributes to peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific. He said cooperation in trade, defence, security and technology continues to deliver benefits for both nations.

India’s High Commissioner to Australia, Nagesh Singh, said PM Modi’s third visit to Australia in 10 years reflects the rapid growth of bilateral ties over the past decade. He noted that the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, established in 2020, now spans defence and security, trade and investment, people-to-people ties, emerging technologies, clean energy, education, skilling and mobility, while the evolving global landscape has brought the two countries closer through shared strategic interests.
