Five Indonesian Air Force fighter jets escorted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s aircraft as it departed for Australia on Wednesday, marking the conclusion of his three-day official visit to Indonesia.
The ceremonial escort, which accompanied the aircraft through Indonesian airspace, underscored the growing strategic partnership between the two countries.
Visuals from onboard the aircraft showed the fighter jets flying in close formation alongside the Prime Minister’s plane.
A similar escort had also been provided on Monday when PM Modi arrived in Jakarta, with Indonesian Air Force jets accompanying his aircraft after it entered Indonesian airspace.
In a special gesture, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto personally saw off Prime Minister Modi at the airport before his departure for Australia, the second leg of his three-country tour. The two leaders shared a warm hug before the Prime Minister boarded his flight.
PM Modi later said that his visit had opened new avenues for cooperation in defence and security, maritime collaboration, critical and emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, digital innovation and capacity building.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the people of Indonesia and President Prabowo Subianto for the warmth and hospitality extended during the visit. He said he was satisfied with the outcomes achieved and highlighted the commitment to taking India-Indonesia relations to greater heights.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal also said the visit produced significant outcomes across key areas of cooperation, strengthening the India-Indonesia partnership and setting an ambitious agenda for the future. He noted that President Prabowo’s airport farewell reflected the close friendship between the two nations.
