Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on his ongoing five-day visit to London reaffirmed the strong potential of the India-UK partnership, stating he looks forward to tangible outcomes from their shared vision.

During a joint India-UK business reception at Lancaster House, Goyal addressed the gathering alongside David Lammy, UK Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, and Jonathan Reynolds, Secretary of State for Business and Trade.

He praised the event as a platform that showcased the vibrant and forward-looking economic ties between the two nations.

Taking to X, Goyal posted, “Wonderful to be joined by @DavidLammy, Secretary of State for @FCDOGovUK at the joint India-UK business reception held at Lancaster House.”

“Addressed the gathering along with UK Secretary of State for Business and Trade @JReynoldsMP and spoke about the bright future ahead for the 🇮🇳-🇬🇧 partnership,” the posted further added.

Goyal further posted, “Immensely grateful for the warm and gracious hospitality extended by our UK partners. Looking forward to tangible outcomes of our shared vision.”

Engaging With Business Leaders

Earlier, Goyal led discussions at the India-UK Business Roundtable, engaging with top business leaders and CEOs from both countries.

He highlighted the scope for increased trade and investment, with a particular focus on innovation-led growth.

Taking to X, Goyal posted, “Addressed the India-UK Business Roundtable, bringing together prominent business leaders and CEOs from both countries.”

“Highlighted opportunities to strengthen economic ties, drive innovation-led growth, and expand investment avenues between India and the UK,” the post further added.

Advancing Free Trade Agreement Talks

Goyal also held bilateral talks with UK Secretary of State for Business and Trade, Jonathan Reynolds, to advance negotiations on the India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

Describing the discussions as ‘productive’, the Minister emphasised the mutual commitment to deepening economic cooperation.

India and the UK aim to conclude the long-anticipated FTA soon.

The agreement, which comprises 26 chapters including goods, services, investment, and intellectual property rights, is considered vital amid shifting global trade dynamics and the prospect of higher tariffs from the United States.

Europe Visit To Strengthen Broader Trade Ties

Goyal’s five-day visit includes London, Oslo, and Brussels, as part of India’s efforts to bolster trade and investment relations not only with the UK but also with Norway and the European Union.

The visit signals India’s ongoing push to secure favourable trade frameworks with key global partners.
