Pakistan Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch stated on Friday that the government has not made any formal requests to join BRICS.
According to the press release issued by Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Foreign Ministry Spokesperson stated that the country will analyze the latest developments before deciding on its future engagement with BRICS.
During a press conference, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch stated, “We have followed the BRICS-related developments in Johannesburg. We have also noted its openness to inclusive multilateralism. Pakistan has said several times in the past that it is an ardent supporter of inclusive multilateralism”.
“Pakistan has not made any formal request to join BRICS. We will examine the latest developments and make a determination about our future engagement with BRICS”, Baloch continued.
Baloch went on to say, “Pakistan is an ardent supporter of multilateralism and as a member of several multilateral organizations it has always played an important role in global peace and development”.
Baloch added that Pakistan is an important developing country that has made numerous significant contributions to promote peace, solidarity, and cooperation among Southern countries.
“We will continue to work at the international fora to foster the spirit of international cooperation and revitalization of inclusive multilateralism”, Baloch noted.
Pakistan Foreign Ministry Spokesperson on India’s Chandrayaan-3 mission remarked, “I can only say that it is a great scientific achievement, for which ISRO scientists deserve appreciation”.
Argentina, Ethiopia, Egypt, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE joined the BRICS group of nations on Thursday. The new membership will take effect on January 1, 2024.
Leaders from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) backed the group’s expansion, the first since South Africa was inducted into the group in 2010.
According to South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa, Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates have been invited to join the BRICS as part of the first phase of expansion. With this expansion, BRICS currently includes six of the world’s top nine oil producers.
Ramaphosa made the remark when releasing the Johannesburg Declaration of the 15th BRICS Summit.
“India has always supported the expansion of BRICS and has always believed that adding new members will strengthen BRICS as an organization”, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated.
