Pakistan Announces Missile Test As Tensions Rise With India After Pahalgam Attack

Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, with Pakistan announcing a scheduled surface-to-surface missile test off its Karachi coast within its Exclusive Economic Zone.

The notification, issued by Pakistani agencies at approximately 9:30 PM Indian time, coincided with a key Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting in India, convened to address the situation following the attack.

The missile test, likely to take place between 24 April and 25 April, has raised concerns, with Indian agencies closely monitoring the developments.

The announcement came shortly after the tragic Pahalgam attack, which claimed the lives of 28 people.

The attack, carried out by terrorists linked to the Pakistan-based group Lashkar-e-Taiba’s proxy, the Resistance Front (TRF), has intensified already fraught relations between the two countries.

India’s Strong Retaliatory Measures

In response to the attack, India announced a series of strong retaliatory measures.

During a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India decided to suspend the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty and close the integrated checkpost at Attari with immediate effect.

Additionally, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated that Pakistani nationals would no longer be permitted to travel to India under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES).

The CCS meeting, which lasted over two hours, briefed on the Pahalgam attack and its cross-border linkages.

India condemned the attack in the strongest terms, extending condolences to the victims’ families and pledging to take decisive action against those responsible.

The attack at Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam is one of the deadliest in the region since the 2019 Pulwama strike, which killed 40 CRPF jawans.

It has also been one of the largest terrorist attacks in the region since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.

As the families of the victims mourn their losses, they are calling for strong government action against the perpetrators of this heinous act.
