In a powerful response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, the Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor, a precise, tri-services military strike that killed over 70 terrorists and injured more than 60 others across nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
The Indian Air Force, Army, and Navy jointly executed missile strikes at 1:44 AM, hitting terrorist infrastructure in Muzaffarabad, Kotli, Bahawalpur, Rawalakot, Chakswari, Bhimber, Neelum Valley, Jhelum, and Chakwal.
Military sources confirmed that credible intelligence inputs guided the selection of these targets, which were used by terror groups including Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, to plan and launch attacks against India.
Addressing the media, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri described the strikes as a ‘measured, proportionate, and responsible response’ to Pakistan’s continued support of cross-border terrorism.
“India reserves the right to respond to and pre-empt acts of terror originating from across its borders,” Misri stated.
Joining Misri at the press briefing were Colonel Sofiya Qureshi of the Army and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh of the Air Force. The officers emphasised the operation’s objective to dismantle active terror infrastructure and neutralise operatives involved in attacks against India.
They also underlined the evidence linking these terror hubs directly to Pakistan-backed militant networks.
India said it deliberately avoided civilian areas and Pakistani military sites to keep the missile strikes non-escalatory.
“Our actions have been focused and restrained,” a government spokesperson said. “We are holding those responsible for the Pahalgam attack accountable.”
Sources revealed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi closely monitored the overnight military operation. The Indian Armed Forces carried out the largest coordinated military strike since the 2019 Balakot airstrikes.
With Operation Sindoor, India has sent a clear signal that it will not tolerate cross-border terrorism or the state complicity that supports it. The government reaffirmed its commitment to national security and justice for victims of terrorism.
