North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said Thursday that the uncertain geopolitical situations around his country means that now is the time to be more prepared for war than ever, as he reviewed the country’s flagship military university.

Kim offered field instruction on Wednesday at the Kim Jong Il University of Military and Politics, named after his father, who died in 2011, and described as the highest seat of military education in the country.

Under Kim, North Korea has increased weapons development in recent years and built stronger military and political ties with Russia, purportedly supporting Moscow in its war with Ukraine in exchange for assistance with strategic military projects.

“Affirming that if the enemy chooses to engage in military conflict with the DPRK, the DPRK will strike a death blow to the enemy without hesitation by mobilizing all means at its disposal in its possession”, Kim told the university staff and students.

DPRK stands for the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, the North’s official moniker.

Earlier this month, Kim oversaw the test launch of a new hypersonic intermediate-range ballistic missile utilizing solid fuel, which analysts predicted would improve the North’s ability to deploy missiles more effectively than liquid-fuel types.

North Korea has accused the United States and South Korea of inciting military tensions by conducting war maneuvers in recent months, as the allies have increased the intensity and scale of their military drills.
