Security agencies reported Tuesday that at least 16 people were injured after three tremors of more than 4 magnitude struck western Nepal’s Jajarkot on Monday, only days after the country experienced its biggest quake in eight years which killed 153 people and 266 others injured.
With those hurt in Monday’s aftershocks, the total number of individuals injured in Nepal’s sequence of earthquakes reached 266.
An official stated, “Sixteen people were injured when three aftershocks with more than 4 magnitudes hit Jajarkot in Western Nepal on Monday afternoon. Ten people were injured in Rukum West and six others were injured in Jajarkot”.
A 6.4 magnitude earthquake rocked Nepal last Friday. The country has felt several aftershocks since then.
According to officials, the earthquake that struck Jajarkot and Rukum West districts in western Nepal damaged roughly 8,000 houses, both public and private.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has summoned an all-party meeting on Tuesday to discuss the aftermath of the Jajarkot earthquake and the current developments.
The meeting will primarily address issues of relief and restoration efforts following the earthquake.
President Ramchandra Paudel will leave Kathmandu on Tuesday afternoon for an inspection tour of the earthquake-affected regions of Jajarkot and Rukum Paschim.
In the aftermath of the Jajarkot earthquake, also canceled his scheduled 10-day visit to Europe starting on Wednesday.
