Mauritian Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam To Visit Varanasi; To Hold Talk With Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Mauritian Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam is scheduled to arrive in Varanasi on September 10, for a three-day visit that will include cultural, spiritual and diplomatic engagements.

According to Varanasi Divisional Commissioner S Rajalingam, Prime Minister Ramgoolam will attend the Ganga Aarti on September 11, offer prayers at the Kashi Vishwanath temple on September 12, and travel to Ayodhya.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also reach Varanasi on September 11 and hold a bilateral meeting with his Mauritian counterpart before returning to New Delhi the same day.

Strengthening a Historic Partnership

In a statement, the Union Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that this will be Prime Minister Ramgoolam’s first overseas bilateral visit to India in his current term, running from 9 to 16 September. His programme will also include stops in Mumbai for a business event and in Tirupati.

The visit marks a continuation of high-level exchanges between the two nations.

Prime Minister Ramgoolam last visited India in 2014 to attend Prime Minister Modi’s swearing-in ceremony.

The Mauritian leader recently extended warm wishes to India on Independence Day, reaffirming the shared values of freedom, democracy and unity that underpin the bilateral relationship.

Prime Minister Modi, in response, thanked his counterpart and described Mauritius as a ‘strategic and trusted partner’ in the shared pursuit of progress and prosperity for both countries.

India and Mauritius have maintained close and longstanding relations rooted in shared history, demography and culture.

According to the Indian High Commission in Mauritius, the two nations established diplomatic ties in 1948, even before Mauritius achieved independence.

Mutual trust, leadership-level engagement and cooperation across a range of sectors, including trade, technology, infrastructure and cultural exchange, have characterised this enduring partnership.

The forthcoming meeting between the two Prime Ministers will strengthen this foundation and pave the way for enhanced collaboration in the years ahead.
