Imran Khan and Maryam Nawaz
Maryam Nawaz, Nawaz Sharif’s daughter and Senior Vice President of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), criticized Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan, claiming the “game is over” following an exodus of his party’s senior members.
Maryam Nawaz delivered the speech at the PML-N’s youth congress in Pakistan’s Vehari. During her speech, she discussed the events on May 9, the day Imran Khan was arrested, sparking violent riots across Pakistan.
While ridiculing Imran Khan’s party for its leaders’ mass departure, Maryam Nawaz stated that there were queues of those leaving the party.
Following the attacks on civil and military institutions, including the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi and the Lahore Corps Commander’s House (Jinnah House), the security forces commenced a crackdown on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders.
Following the May 9 mayhem, more than 70 lawyers and party leaders have left the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
“How will the people stand when the leader himself is a jackal?” she asked, mocking former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who was dismissed from office in April last year following a vote of no confidence.
“Your people are revealing that Imran Khan is behind the May 9 [incidents]”, she continued.
According to the PML-N senior vice president, Imran Khan was the mastermind of the ‘terrorism’ on May 9, yet his employees are facing anti-terrorism charges.
Meanwhile, Imran Khan has requested that negotiations with state officials begin immediately. This comes as pressure rises on him following a crackdown on his senior aides and followers, which resulted in hundreds being imprisoned and many fleeing his party.
