Maharashtra Takes Centre Stage In London With Quantum City And Quantum Corridor Ambitions

A senior Government of Maharashtra delegation has concluded a quantum, AI and investment mission to London on 7–8 October, advancing the state’s ambition to create a Quantum City and a UK–Maharashtra Quantum Corridor.

The aim is to connect research, computing infrastructure, skilled talent and international capital, positioning Maharashtra as India’s quantum and AI capital.

Organised and facilitated by the Global India Business Corridor (GIBC UK) following eight months of preparation, the mission gave Maharashtra a prominent platform at The City Quantum & AI Summit at Mansion House.

The delegation delivered the opening and closing keynote addresses, respectively, alongside a Maharashtra quantum panel featuring Sir Peter Knight FRS.

The mission included 13 bilateral meetings with global CEOs and senior leaders from technology, investment and public institutions.

Discussions, however, focused on attracting international companies to establish operations in Maharashtra, create skilled employment and bring advanced technologies to industry and government.

Companies represented in the bilateral discussions included IonQ, Oxford Quantum Circuits (OQC), Multiverse Computing, Thales, Cognition, Delta g, IoT Tribe, QBase / EdenBase, Resonance Holdings / The Quantum Insider, QURECA and Sustopia.

Proposals spanned a quantum computing facility in Mumbai, an AI engineering and research base, cybersecurity tools for critical infrastructure, sustainable data centres and workforce training.

Other discussions, however, explored AI to speed up investor approvals, quantum sensing for safer underground construction, startup support and advanced manufacturing centres to help MSMEs enter global supply chains.

Engagements with Alderman and Sheriff Tim Levene and City of London Corporation representatives explored a London–Mumbai investment channel to connect Maharashtra infrastructure projects with institutional finance.

Potential Impact of ₹20,000 Crore in Economic Activity and 8,000 Jobs

An illustrative GIBC planning scenario envisages approximately ₹20,000 crore in cumulative economic activity over ten years and 8,000 direct and supported jobs at maturity, if the proposed projects secure funding and become operational.

The total includes investment, operating expenditure and wider economic effects. These estimates are not independently validated and do not represent committed investment or confirmed hiring.

For Maharashtra, successful delivery could mean more opportunities for engineers, researchers and entrepreneurs, stronger local technology capabilities and better access to global markets.

The proposed projects could, however, strengthen critical infrastructure security, reduce data centre energy demand, improve transport construction planning and make investment approvals faster and more transparent.
