Jaishankar, New Zealand FM Discuss Indo-Pacific Security In Manila

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Wednesday met his New Zealand counterpart Winston Peters in Manila, where the two leaders discussed the Indo-Pacific security situation and ways to strengthen maritime cooperation.

Taking to X, Jaishankar posted, “A useful conversation with FM @winstonpeters of New Zealand @ASEAN #Manila. Shared perspectives on the Indo-Pacific security situation and discussed enhancing our maritime cooperation.”

Earlier in the day, Jaishankar met Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow. The discussions focused on deepening bilateral engagement, while the two sides also exchanged views on developments in Myanmar.

Jaishankar also met Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand and said India-Canada cooperation has been steadily growing.

According to his post, the discussions centred on achieving the goals for bilateral ties set by the Prime Ministers of both countries.

The External Affairs Minister also held talks with Singapore’s Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan and appreciated his insights on regional and global developments.

During his meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Jaishankar reiterated India’s strong concern over the safety of Indian seafarers in the region.

The two Ministers reviewed bilateral relations and discussed trade and investment, energy, connectivity, science and technology, mobility, as well as the Ukraine conflict and the Gulf situation.

Jaishankar is on a two-day visit to the Philippines to participate in Foreign Ministers’ meetings under the ASEAN framework, including the ASEAN-India, East Asia Summit (EAS) and ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) meetings.
