External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha in France on Friday during the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. Both leaders exchanged views on evolving developments in West Asia and emphasised the need for regional stability and secure global supply chains.

Sybiha stated that the discussion covered geopolitical developments in the Middle East and underlined the importance of maintaining uninterrupted international trade networks. He confirmed that both sides agreed to enhance engagement and strengthen bilateral cooperation.
The dialogue took place as tensions persisted in West Asia following military actions by Israel and the United States against Iran, which resulted in the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and senior military officials.
Iran responded with drone and missile strikes targeting US and Israeli assets and allied positions across the region.
Jaishankar is visiting France for a two-day engagement at the G7 ministerial meeting held at Abbaye des Vaux-de-Cernay.
During a session on global governance reforms, he stressed the urgent need to reform the United Nations Security Council.
S Jaishankar also called for more efficient peacekeeping operations and resilient humanitarian supply systems. He highlighted concerns of the Global South, particularly regarding energy security, fertiliser availability, and food supply challenges.
In a separate session, Jaishankar spoke on the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC). He asserted that current geopolitical tensions reinforce the need for dependable trade routes and robust supply chains.
S Jaishankar also noted that India’s trade agreements with the European Union, EFTA nations, and the United Kingdom have enhanced the corridor’s strategic value.
