S Jaishankar Highlights IMEC’s Strategic Role At G7 Meet As Global Instability Rises

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar underscored the strategic importance of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) in reinforcing global connectivity during heightened geopolitical instability. He delivered his remarks at the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in France.

Jaishankar asserted that ongoing tensions in West Asia demand robust and dependable trade routes. He emphasised the necessity of secure and diversified supply chains to mitigate global disruptions.

S Jaishankar noted that India’s expanding trade architecture has strengthened IMEC’s relevance. He cited ongoing Free Trade Agreement negotiations with the European Union, alongside agreements with the European Free Trade Association and the United Kingdom.

He shared his views on the social media platform X, stating that current uncertainties further justify the development of resilient economic corridors.

Jaishankar highlighted increasing international support for IMEC. He stressed the urgency of reforming the United Nations Security Council. He also called for more efficient peacekeeping frameworks and stronger humanitarian logistics systems.

EAM Jaishankar raised key concerns of the Global South, including energy security, fertiliser availability, and food supply stability. He urged collective global action to address these pressing challenges.

On the sidelines, Jaishankar held bilateral discussions with UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper and German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, reviewing both bilateral and global matters.

EAM S Jaishankar arrived at Abbaye des Vaux-de-Cernay in France for the two-day meeting and received a warm welcome from French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot.
