Israel Defence Forces said on Saturday that it struck key military infrastructure across Tehran.
The army said intelligence guided the operation. It hit several defence targets in the Iranian capital. The strikes included an aerial defence site linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps.
According to the IDF, the facility stored missiles intended to down aircraft.
Israeli forces also targeted a military installation that protects weapons research and development sites. They struck another facility used for ballistic missile storage. They also hit additional weapons production and research sites.
The IDF said the operation forms part of a wider campaign. It said the campaign aims to inflict more serious damage on Iran’s core systems and foundations.
The statement described the strikes as completed actions under that ongoing phase.
The latest violence followed the crash of two US military aircraft on Friday after Iranian fire hit them. One pilot from the two-seat F-15 was rescued.
The other pilot remains missing, according to Xinhua news agency. The losses came soon after US President Donald Trump said Iranian forces ‘can’t do a thing about’ US planes flying over Tehran.
Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency said at least five people suffered injuries in US-Israeli attacks on petrochemical companies in Khuzestan province. It named Fajr 1 and 2, Regal, Amirkabir, Bandar Imam and Buali Sina as the affected firms.
The report said the strikes hit at 10:47 AM local time on Saturday.
Valiollah Hayati, Khuzestan’s deputy governor for security and law enforcement, warned that further casualties remained likely. He said the Shalamcheh border trade terminal in Khorramshahr also came under attack and suffered serious damage.
The report added that the Mahshahr Special Petrochemical Zone was evacuated.
On February 28, Israel and the United States launched joint strikes on Tehran and other Iranian cities, killing Iran’s then Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, senior commanders, and civilians.
Iran replied with missile and drone attacks on Israeli and US assets across the Middle East.
