Iran Turns Back Pakistan-Bound Vessel In Strait Of Hormuz Over Protocol Breach

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy turned back a Pakistan-bound container vessel in the Strait of Hormuz after it allegedly failed to comply with mandatory maritime protocols.

Authorities identified the vessel as Selen (IMO: 9208459), which was en route to Karachi when Iranian forces intercepted it and ordered it to return.

Officials said the ship lacked the required authorisation to pass through the strategically significant corridor.

Amid the ongoing regional conflict, Iran reiterated that all vessels must coordinate with its maritime authorities before transiting the waterway.

The IRGC stated that the vessel did not obtain the necessary clearance.

Maritime tracking data showed that the vessel was last located in the Persian Gulf shortly before the incident surfaced.

The ship, sailing under the Saint Kitts and Nevis flag, measures over 118 metres in length and was scheduled to reach Karachi on March 28.

Authorities did not report any detention or escalation, and they allowed the vessel to turn back without confrontation.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical global shipping route, linking the Persian Gulf with the Arabian Sea.

Nearly one-fifth of the world’s oil supply passes through it, making it highly sensitive to geopolitical tensions.

Iran, which controls the northern coastline of the strait, has consistently enforced strict navigation rules, requiring prior permissions for passage through its territorial waters.

There has been no official response from Pakistan so far.

Donald Trump called for an international coalition to secure the route, while Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif offered to facilitate talks.

Diplomatic efforts are ongoing to ease tensions and restore normal shipping activity.
