US President Donald Trump on Monday stated that ongoing negotiations with Iran could foster long-term stability in the Middle East, a region crucial for global energy supplies and expatriate populations.
Speaking to reporters during a tarmac interaction in Miami, Florida, he described the discussions as ‘very strong’ and nearing a potential agreement.
Trump indicated that both sides have addressed nearly all major issues and are working within a five-day timeframe to evaluate progress.
He noted that Iran appears eager to finalise a deal, adding that the United States is equally willing to reach an understanding.
However, he cautioned that failure to secure an agreement could result in continued military action. He reiterated that the United States would not permit Iran to acquire nuclear weapons and stressed a strict ‘no enrichment’ stance.
Trump emphasised broader regional peace objectives, stating that a successful agreement would benefit Israel and Gulf nations, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain.
He suggested that Iran initiated the latest engagement and referred to a planned but unexecuted strike on Iranian infrastructure.
He also proposed that the United States could assume control of Iran’s enriched uranium under any agreement.
Reflecting on previous military actions, Trump claimed earlier strikes had significantly weakened Iran’s nuclear capabilities.
Addressing oil markets, he said a deal would sharply reduce global oil prices. He also commented on domestic matters, including ICE operations at airports and ongoing political disagreements with Democrats.
Trump acknowledged uncertainty surrounding the outcome but maintained that negotiations present a genuine opportunity.
