The Indian government has granted a temporary stay to former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina following the collapse of her administration on Monday, according to media reports. This interim arrangement will allow Hasina to receive logistical support from India as she seeks asylum in the United Kingdom.

Hasina, who resigned amid unprecedented anti-government protests, is currently en route to London via India. Her stay in India is provisional, pending her relocation to Britain. As of now, there has been no official confirmation from the UK government regarding her asylum application, Daily Sun reported.

Accompanying Hasina is her sister Rehana, a UK citizen. Rehana, the younger sister of Sheikh Hasina and daughter of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the “Father of Bangladesh,” is also the aunt of Tulip Siddiq, a British MP with the Labour Party.

The Indian government is monitoring the rapidly evolving situation in Dhaka, where General , the Chief of Bangladesh’s Army, has announced an interim government is now in place. In a televised address, General Zaman stated, “I’m taking all responsibility for the country. Please cooperate,” and assured that the military would oversee law and order.

The protests against Hasina’s government have resulted in over 100 fatalities in the past two days, highlighting the severity of the unrest in Bangladesh.
