India Will Buy Energy Where It Benefits Most, Says Dmitry Peskov After Putin’s Visit

Russia’s Dmitry Peskov affirms India will continue buying energy strategically, while Putin praises strengthened bilateral ties and ongoing fuel cooperation.

Dmitry Peskov, Press Secretary to Russian President Vladimir Putin, on Monday, affirmed that India purchases energy resources where it finds them most advantageous.

He told the media in Moscow that New Delhi will continue this policy following Putin’s recent State Visit to India.

“India, as a sovereign nation, conducts foreign trade operations and acquires energy wherever it benefits the country,” Peskov said, as reported by Russia’s Tass news agency.

He described Putin’s visit to India as ‘very successful’ and confirmed that Indian partners will maintain this approach to safeguard their economic interests.

During his visit to New Delhi, Putin assured that Russia remains a reliable energy supplier to India and will guarantee uninterrupted fuel supplies to support the country’s rapidly growing economy.

He praised PM Narendra Modi for the warm reception and highlighted the close working and personal relationship he has established with the Indian Prime Minister.

President Putin said both leaders continually monitor the development of Russian-Indian cooperation across all strategic areas.

He noted that the two countries are increasingly using national currencies in trade, with 96 per cent of commercial transactions now conducted this way.

Russian companies are expanding the use of Indian rupees earned through exports, and large joint projects are financed in Russian rubles.

“The energy partnership is thriving. Russia is a dependable supplier of resources and fully supports India’s energy sector development,” Putin added.
