India Extends Support To Myanmar As PM Modi Meets Senior General Min Aung Hlaing

On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Myanmar’s Senior General Min Aung Hlaing to review bilateral ties between the two countries.

During the meeting, PM Modi conveyed his condolences over the loss of lives and damage caused by the 28 March earthquake.

Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “Met Senior General Min Aung Hlaing of Myanmar on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok. Once again expressed condolences on the loss of lives and damage of property in the wake of the recent earthquake. India is doing whatever is possible to assist our sisters and brothers of Myanmar in this critical time. We also discussed bilateral relations between India and Myanmar, particularly in sectors like connectivity, capacity building, infrastructure development and more.”

Earlier on Thursday, PM Modi held talks with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra to explore ways to expand political dialogue, defense cooperation, and strategic collaboration.

Both leaders also emphasized strengthening ties in areas such as connectivity, healthcare, science and technology, digital innovation, education, tourism, and cultural exchanges.

The Thai Prime Minister welcomed PM Modi at the Government House in Bangkok.

“Had a very fruitful meeting with Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra in Bangkok a short while ago. Expressed gratitude to the people and Government of Thailand for the warm welcome and also expressed solidarity with the people of Thailand in the aftermath of the earthquake a few days ago. India’s ‘Act East’ and Thailand’s ‘Act West Policies’ complement each other extremely well and open several possibilities for bilateral cooperation,” Prime Minister Modi posted on X.

India Extends Relief To Myanmar Under ‘Operation Brahma’

Meanwhile, India’s National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been actively involved in rescue and relief operations in Myanmar under ‘Operation Brahma’.

The country continues to recover from the 7.7 magnitude earthquake, with India extending timely humanitarian assistance as part of its regional first responder role.
