On Friday, a bus transporting visitors crashed into a gorge in Gilgit-Baltistan’s Diamer area, killing at least eight people, including a toddler.
In addition, nine persons were injured in the accident at Babusar Pass in Gilgit-Baltistan’s Diamer area.
Diamer Rescue 1122 District Coordinator Shaukat Riaz reported that the accident occurred when the can collided with a car.
According to Chilas Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Wazir Liaqat, the bus was en route from Sahiwal to Gilgit and was carrying 16 tourists.
“After it fell into the ravine, the bus caught fire”, Wazir Liaqat said, adding that the injured were transferred to the Chilas Regional Headquarters Hospital right afterwards.
As reported by Liaqat, the injured included four ladies, four children, and one guy.
Six people were murdered and 17 others were injured earlier this month when a tourist bus slid down a gorge on the Karakoram Highway near the Thalichi district of Gilgit Baltistan.
Pakistan’s poor road safety record is the result of dilapidated highways, lax safety rules, and reckless driving.
Buses carrying passengers are typically overcrowded, and seatbelt use is infrequent.
