External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz
‘Indian minister had a point’, says German Chancellor Olaf Scholz while quoting Jaishankar’s ‘European mindset’ remark.
It was Slovakia where last year in the month of June EAM Jaishankar was heard saying this. During the 17th edition of the GLOBSEC Bratislava Forum, the Indian Foreign Minister said that “Europe needs to get dispensed with the mindset that Europe’s problems are the world’s problems. In fact, the world’s problems are not Europe’s problems.”
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz agrees with what Jaishankar said. Olaf Scholz asserts that Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar did have a point last year when he spoke about the “European mindset”. The German Chancellor says that it “will not be only Europe’s problem if the law of the strong is to be asserted in international relations”.
The GLOBSEC Bratislava Forum had its 17th edition meet in Slovakia in June 2022 where EAM Jaishankar did not mince words while opining his thought straightforwardly.
Jaishankar had slammed the “European mindset” and also while responding to a question on India’s stand in the Russia-Ukraine war, Jaishankar said: “Probably, Europe has to come out of the mindset that Europe’s problems are the problems of the world, but the problems of the world are not Europe’s problems… that ‘if it is you, it is yours’, but ‘if it is me, it is ours. I can see reflections of that.”

On the opening day of the Munich Security Conference, the German Chancellor quoted S Jaishankar and said, “Eupore is wrong when it thinks its problems are the world’s problems, but the world’s problems are not Europe’s problems — the quote from the Indian Foreign Minister has been included in this year’s Munich Security Report and the Indian Minister does have a point. It cannot be only Europe’s problem if the law of the strong is to be asserted in international relations.”
