Prime Minister Narendra Modi met South Korean President Lee Jae-myung on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Evian, France, where the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across a range of strategic sectors.
Following the meeting, PM Modi described his interaction with President Lee as highly productive.
The discussions came just two months after the South Korean leader’s official visit to India, during which both countries pledged to deepen collaboration in technology, defence and economic development.
The leaders reviewed the progress of the India-South Korea Special Strategic Partnership and explored opportunities to enhance cooperation in trade, commerce and innovation. They also discussed measures to strengthen economic ties and promote greater investment between the two countries.
India and South Korea have enjoyed steadily growing relations since establishing diplomatic ties in 1973. The partnership was elevated to a Special Strategic Partnership in 2015, reflecting the increasing importance of bilateral cooperation.
South Korea remains one of India’s key economic partners in East Asia, with annual bilateral trade exceeding USD 23 billion.
The meeting focused on future-oriented sectors that are expected to drive economic growth and technological advancement.
Both leaders discussed cooperation in semiconductors, artificial intelligence, green energy, critical technologies and defence manufacturing.
The leaders discussed strengthening supply chains, renewable energy, infrastructure and technology cooperation. They also exchanged views on regional and global issues, stressing closer coordination on security and multilateral engagement.
PM Modi highlighted South Korea’s role as a trusted partner in India’s development journey, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to expanding cooperation in trade, technology and emerging sectors.
