Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s tally of international honours has risen to 35 after Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto conferred the ‘Bintang Adipurna of the Republic of Indonesia’, the country’s highest civilian honour, during his official visit to Jakarta.
Also known as the ‘Medal of Honour’, the Bintang Adipurna recognises individuals for exceptional service towards the unity, continuity and prosperity of Indonesia.
The latest honour further strengthens Prime Minister Modi’s position as the most internationally decorated Indian Prime Minister, with recognitions from countries across Asia, Europe, Africa and the Americas since 2016.
Last month, Seychelles honoured Prime Minister Modi with the ‘Guardian of the Blue Horizon’ for his leadership in environmental conservation and sustainable development, while Bhutan awarded him the ‘Order of the Druk Gyalpo’, making him the first foreign head of government to receive the country’s highest civilian honour.

Nigeria conferred the ‘Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger’, making him only the second foreign dignitary after Queen Elizabeth II to receive the honour.
Israel presented Prime Minister Modi with the ‘Speaker of the Knesset Medal’, making him its first recipient.

Egypt honoured him with the ‘Order of the Nile’, the country’s highest state decoration, while the United States awarded him the ‘Legion of Merit’ for strengthening the India-US strategic partnership.

Russia also conferred its highest state honour, the ‘Order of St Andrew the Apostle’, in recognition of his contribution to India-Russia relations.

Several of these honours have also been awarded to global leaders, including Barack Obama, Nelson Mandela, Queen Elizabeth II and Xi Jinping.
With Indonesia’s latest recognition, Prime Minister Modi’s international honours tally has reached 35, the highest for any Indian Prime Minister.
