Union Minister for Education, Dharmendra Pradhan, met with Singapore’s Prime Minister, H.E. Lawrence Wong, today to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation in education and research. The talks focused on elevating the partnership through three pillars—Talent, Resource, and Market.
Pradhan emphasized India’s view of Singapore as a trusted knowledge partner, particularly in deep tech, startups, and innovation. The ministers reaffirmed their commitment to a comprehensive India-Singapore partnership, as outlined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Wong.

Strengthening School and Vocational Education
Pradhan also met Singapore’s Education Minister, Mr. Chan Chun Sing, to discuss further collaboration in school and vocational education. They explored overseas internship programs for Indian students in Singaporean companies. The twinning of schools and universities in both countries was a key focus, aimed at fostering cultural and academic connections.

They discussed joint research initiatives in areas like deep tech, medicine, and advanced materials, as well as curriculum development and teacher training with Singapore’s National Institute of Education and India’s NCERT.
Partnership in Higher Education
Dharmendra Pradhan also visited the National University of Singapore (NUS) and met with its president, Prof. Tan Eng Chye. They discussed enhancing academic and research collaborations between NUS and Indian higher education institutions, particularly in deep startups, healthcare, digitalization, and sustainability. Shri Pradhan reiterated the importance of internationalizing India’s education system under NEP 2020.
The minister’s visit to Singapore, followed by a trip to Australia, aims to strengthen educational ties and foster cooperation in key areas from October 20 to 26, 2024.
