An attack involving drones caused a fire inside the US Embassy in Baghdad, situated within the highly secure Green Zone in Baghdad, early on Tuesday. Officials described the incident as a serious breach given the high-security status of the area.

According to officials, two drones carrying explosives managed to enter the compound and detonated, setting parts of the facility ablaze. Emergency sirens triggered immediately, while defence systems reportedly did not stop the incoming devices.

Initial reports indicated no loss of life or injuries, though the explosions resulted in visible damage to infrastructure within the embassy grounds. Officials have begun assessing the extent of destruction and reviewing security protocols.

The embassy endured repeated strikes from Monday evening through the early hours of Tuesday.

Footage suggested that at least one drone exploded close to the site, highlighting possible vulnerabilities in the C-RAM defence mechanism.

The Green Zone in Baghdad, home to key government offices and foreign missions, has remained a frequent target of attacks in recent years.

In a separate incident, drones struck the Majnoon Oil Field in southern Iraq. One device hit a communications tower without causing damage, while another targeted facilities associated with a US company.

The Popular Mobilisation Forces stated that six of its members were killed and four were injured in a strike in Anbar Province near the Syrian border, where they were deployed at a checkpoint.
