The situation in Afghanistan has worsened sharply after a deadly airstrike reportedly carried out by Pakistan killed at least 400 people and injured around 250.
Officials call the escalation one of the most severe in recent years, signalling intensifying hostilities between the two nations.
The strike hit a major hospital, with Mandullah Fitrat confirming it occurred around 9 PM local time.
The attack destroyed a large part of the 2,000-bed facility with thousands inside, while rescue efforts continue, and casualties may rise.
Since February, clashes have intensified, with Pakistan relying on air power against the Taliban after failed diplomatic efforts.
Analysts say the targeting of civilian infrastructure aims to force negotiations or regime change, but it has instead boosted support for the Taliban.
Pakistan denies the allegations, with Mosharraf Zaidi asserting that only militant targets were struck.
Despite these denials, reports indicate significant civilian casualties since February 26, with at least 475 deaths and over 115,000 people displaced.
Observers warn that the conflict risks further destabilising the region, especially as global attention remains focused on other geopolitical crises.
Officials also noted that Pakistan may be attempting to exploit the lack of international intervention to intensify its campaign.
Growing anger among Afghan civilians has reportedly led to increased mobilisation against Pakistani forces, raising fears of a prolonged and wider conflict.
