US President Donald Trump has issued a firm warning to Hamas, saying the militant group has been given only a short window to disarm or face serious consequences. He made the remarks while appearing alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at a joint press conference in Mar-a-Lago, Florida.
Speaking to reporters, Trump said discussions with Israeli leaders had focused heavily on Hamas’ commitment to disarm under an emerging peace framework. He indicated that the group had already agreed to the terms but cautioned that any failure to comply would trigger decisive action.
Trump said his Middle East special envoy, Steve Witkoff and senior presidential adviser Jared Kushner would supervise the process on behalf of the United States. He stressed that the deadline for disarmament would be brief and non-negotiable.
However, when asked whether Israel would withdraw its forces before Hamas completed the disarmament process, Trump declined to connect the two issues.
He described Israeli actions so far as fully consistent with the peace plan and dismissed suggestions of delays in its implementation.
The US president warned that Hamas’ refusal to honour its commitment would provoke action not only from Israel but also from other countries supporting the agreement. He claimed that 59 nations had aligned themselves with the peace initiative, calling it a significant step towards lasting stability in the Middle East.
Netanyahu strongly endorsed Trump’s stance, praising him as Israel’s most reliable ally and highlighting the close coordination between the two governments. He described their cooperation as unprecedented in scope and effectiveness.
Iran Also in Focus
Trump also linked progress on the peace framework to earlier US actions against Iran. He warned that any renewed attempts by Tehran to rebuild its regional influence would prompt swift retaliation, reiterating Washington’s readiness to act.
Concluding his remarks, Trump said he preferred a peaceful outcome but made clear that Hamas must abide by the agreement it had accepted.
Hamas has governed the Gaza Strip since 2007 and remains designated a terrorist organisation by the United States.
Previous ceasefire and peace efforts in the region have repeatedly collapsed over disputes involving disarmament and security guarantees.
The Trump administration argues that dismantling militant groups is essential for durable peace.
