Authorities announced Thursday that a missile strike on December 29 killed 32 people in Kyiv, upping the death toll from the war’s bloodiest hit on the Ukrainian capital.
Russia has recently increased its aircraft bombardment on Ukraine, which claims to have enough weapons to withstand a few powerful assaults but may soon require additional assistance.
Sergiy Popko, the head of the Kyiv military administration, stated, “The total number of dead as a result of the enemy missile attack on December 29 is 32 people”.
“Thirty people were wounded”, Popko continued.
According to Ukrainian authorities, all 32 people dead were found in a warehouse. Russia claims that it is exclusively targeting military infrastructure.
Vitali Klitschko, the mayor of Kyiv, claimed on Saturday that the December 29 strike was the largest in terms of civilian casualties.
Russia had launched 158 missiles and drones over Ukraine on that day, as reported by the air force, in an attempt to overwhelm air defences.
At least 55 people were killed and 170 were injured in the attack.
Ukraine has reacted, and the Russian border region of Belgorod was hit by a series of strikes over the weekend, killing 25 people – an unprecedented toll since the offensive began almost two years ago.
