Thursday, the Chinese foreign ministry said Premier Li Qiang will visit Germany and France from  June 18 to June 23.

In a statement, foreign ministry spokesman, Wang Wenbin stated, “Li will take part in the seventh round of China-Germany government consultations, and also pay an official visit to France”.

“At the invitation of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and the French government”, Wang explained. He will also attend the Summit for a New Global Financing Pact while in France.

According to Elysee, the conference hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron intends to bring together private and public financing where it is most needed by people and the planet, such as combating climate change and poverty and safeguarding biodiversity.

This will be Li’s first overseas trip since becoming premier in the march.

Li, a former Shanghai party chief, is regarded as one of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s most trusted allies.

His visit to Germany comes just days after a document published by Chancellor Scholz’s coalition on Wednesday criticized China for placing regional stability and international security under increasing pressure and for violating human rights.

When asked what message the document communicated to Beijing, Scholz said at a news conference, the point is that China will continue to grow economically and that China’s integration into global trade and economic relations should not be jeopardized.

“However, the security issues that arise for us must be considered”, he added, adding that Germany doesn’t want to decouple, we want de-risking.
