Twelve people lost their lives, and 33 others sustained injuries when a bus overturned on a highway in Egypt’s north eastern governorate of Suez. The tragic accident occurred on Monday on the Al-Galala-Ain Sokhna Road, as reported by the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population.
Emergency services quickly responded, dispatching 28 ambulances to the scene. The injured were transported to hospitals in Suez for treatment.
Road accidents continue to pose a significant threat in Egypt, claiming thousands of lives each year. Contributing factors include speeding, poor road maintenance, and lax enforcement of traffic regulations, according to reports from Xinhua news agency.

In response to these issues, Egypt has been working to upgrade its road network in recent years, aiming to alleviate traffic congestion and reduce the incidence of accidents.
Official statistics from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) indicate that road accidents resulted in 5,861 fatalities in 2023. This figure represents a 24.5% decrease from the 7,762 deaths recorded in 2022, highlighting the ongoing efforts to improve road safety in the country.
