Clare O'Neil and Donald Trump Jr.
Clare O’Neil, Australia’s Home Minister, nicknamed Donald Trump Jr. a ‘big baby’ on Thursday after the former US president’s son cancelled a planned speaking trip.
Donald Trump Jr., who was set to begin a three-day tour of Australia in Sydney on Sunday, cancelled the trip on Wednesday, citing visa concerns.
Ms O’Neil, one of the highest-ranking ministers in Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s centre-left Labour government, said Mr Trump Jr had been granted a visa and that poor ticket sales were the reason he cancelled his visit.
“Geez, Donald Trump Jr is a bit of a sore loser”, she remarked in a sequence of tweets that were later removed from Twitter.
“Donald Trump Jr has been given a visa to come to Australia. He didn’t get cancelled. He’s just a big baby, who isn’t very popular”, she added.
It was unclear why the tweets were removed, and Ms O’Neil’s office did not reply immediately to a request for comment.
Prime Minister Albanese also stated that the eldest son of former President Donald Trump had not been barred from entering.
“Donald Trump Jr.’s visa was handled normally. He has the same right as everyone else to come here. The deferral of his travel is a matter for him”, he told reporters.
The younger Trump has long been a vocal admirer of his father, who is the presumptive Republican presidential nominee in 2024.
