Anupriya Nagar Inspires Audience At House Of Lords With Message On Culture And Storytelling

University of Bath alumna and Hanuman Ansh producer Anupriya Nagar delivered an inspiring address at the House of Lords, drawing on Indian spiritual wisdom, her experience as an international student, and her journey in filmmaking to encourage young people to connect cultures and communities through shared values and storytelling.

Anupriya Nagar opened her speech with a verse from the Hanuman Chalisa, “Ashta Siddhi Nava Nidhi Ke Data, Asa Bar Deena Janaki Mata.”

Explaining its meaning, Anupriya Nagar said, “These words from the Hanuman Chalisa mean: ‘You are the giver of the eight spiritual powers and the nine treasures, a blessing bestowed by Mother Sita’. To me, those treasures are not wealth or miracles. They are courage, purpose, service, and the confidence to build bridges between people and cultures.”

Addressing Members of the House of Lords, distinguished guests and community leaders, Anupriya Nagar reflected on her journey from India to the United Kingdom. She said that while she initially moved to Britain to study Economics at the University of Bath, she ultimately found something even more valuable than education and opportunity — a sense of community.

Through her involvement with the Indian National Student Association and the wider Indian community in Bath, Anupriya Nagar said she learned that culture remains an enduring connection regardless of geography.

“Culture is something we carry with us, share with others, and use to create connections,” she said.

Anupriya Nagar said these experiences shaped her understanding of storytelling. She added that they inspired her to use cinema as a tool for education and cultural exchange.

At the age of 21, Anupriya Nagar produced Hanuman Ansh, a film inspired by the life and teachings of Neem Karoli Baba. She said the project was more than a cinematic work. It also aimed to introduce younger generations to India’s spiritual heritage and values.

Highlighting the importance of belief and self-confidence, Anupriya Nagar referenced a celebrated episode from the life of Lord Hanuman.

“Hanuman did not cross the ocean because he knew he was capable. He crossed it because he believed. And the strength followed,” she told the audience.

Anupriya Nagar also stressed that learning extends beyond traditional academic settings.

“As a student and filmmaker, I have learned that education happens far beyond classrooms. It happens through conversations, through culture, through service, and through the stories we choose to tell,” she said.

Concluding her address, Anupriya Nagar encouraged people to become bridge-builders within their communities.

“Each of us has the ability to build bridges—between generations, between cultures, and between communities. And within each of us exists an ansh—a spark of something greater. The question is whether we have the courage to recognise it,” she noted.

Attendees warmly appreciated Anupriya Nagar’s address. The occasion marked another milestone in her journey from international student to film producer. It also highlighted the role of education, cultural identity and storytelling in inspiring meaningful change.
