American Soldier Detained In Russia On Theft Allegations

The US Army, which confirmed the detention on Monday, has yet to name the soldier

On Tuesday, a US soldier jailed in Russia on criminal misconduct allegations was apprehended by a Vladivostok court on theft charges.

According to the report, the soldier, identified by the court as Gordon Black, will be imprisoned until July 2.

“The Pervomaisky District Court in Vladivostok arrested the American soldier Gordon Black…under the ‘Theft’ article (of Russia’s criminal code)”, the court said.

The US Army, which confirmed the detention on Monday, has yet to name the soldier.

A US official stated that the soldier was stationed in South Korea. Another US official stated that the soldier was accused of stealing from a woman.

A Russian source said the Army sergeant in South Korea met a woman from Russia’s far eastern port of Vladivostok on the Internet.

Izvestia reported that the couple lived together for a time and that he stole 200,000 roubles ($2,196) from her.
