Ali Bagheri, Iran’s Top Nuclear Negotiator, Named Acting Foreign Minister

Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian was also on board along with the president, governor of East Azerbaijan, and the province’s main imam

On Monday, Ali Bagheri, Iran’s top nuclear negotiator, was named as acting foreign minister, a government spokesperson stated, following the death of Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in a helicopter crash.

According to the report, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian was also on board along with the president, governor of East Azerbaijan, and the province’s main imam.

The tragedy occurred in Dizmar’s hilly protected forest region, near the village of Varzaghan.

On state television, government spokesman Ali Bahadori Jahromi announced Ali Bagheri’s appointment, who previously served as deputy foreign minister under Amir-Abdollahian.

Mohammad Mokhber, Iran’s first vice president, is set to take over the presidency.

As per the Iranian constitution, the first vice president takes over in the event of the president’s death, dismissal, resignation, absence, or illness for more than two months.
