Afghanistan issued a sharp warning after alleged strikes by Pakistan in Kabul. Interior Ministry spokesperson Abdul Matin Qane said the country would respond decisively to the incident.
Officials stated that the attack struck the Omid Addiction Treatment Hospital in the Pul-e-Charkhi area, causing extensive destruction to the large healthcare complex.
Authorities reported that hundreds of people were killed and many others were injured in the strike. Emergency teams continued rescue efforts, searching through debris for survivors and recovering bodies.
Afghan officials described the strike as a major escalation and a breach of sovereignty. They stressed that such actions would prompt a firm and unavoidable response.
Relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan have worsened considerably in recent weeks, with both countries accusing each other of aggressive cross-border actions.
Afghan authorities have strongly objected to what they describe as Pakistan’s military incursions into Afghan territory, particularly in eastern and south-eastern areas, citing civilian harm and infrastructure damage.
Pakistan has asserted that it is targeting militant groups that allegedly use Afghan territory to launch attacks.
Previous incidents have further strained ties, with Afghan officials reporting casualties from earlier airstrikes in Kabul in recent days.
Reports indicated that strikes also affected regions such as Kandahar, Paktika, Khost and Nangarhar, including damage to key infrastructure like an oil depot. The latest escalation follows retaliatory actions by Afghan forces after earlier Pakistani operations.
In response, Pakistan launched Operation Ghazab lil-Haq, further intensifying the conflict.
With both sides maintaining firm positions, the situation continues to remain volatile, raising concerns about prolonged instability and the possibility of further escalation in the region.
