A recent assessment by the Counter Extremism Project has pointed to an increase in threats from networks associated with ISIS, including calls for attacks on Hindus in India and across South and Southeast Asia. The findings underline a rise in extremist activity online.

ISIS supporters have been using online platforms to amplify violent messaging and react to recent incidents abroad. These groups have circulated content that not only praises such acts but also attempts to inspire further violence.

The report identified a message posted on March 9 that directly called for attacks on Hindus. It mentioned regions such as Bangladesh and Myanmar, along with Indian states including West Bengal, Assam, Tripura and Manipur. Encrypted networks widely reshared the content.

Extremist users also voiced support for suspects involved in attempted attacks in the United States. While some criticised the execution, many endorsed the intent behind the incidents.

Channels linked to ISIS shared images and background details of accused individuals, emphasising their exposure to extremist ideology. These discussions often framed the attackers in a positive light.

The report noted that ISIS supporters praised a university shooting in the United States, portraying the attacker as a martyr and using the incident to reinforce extremist narratives.

ISIS stepped up its propaganda efforts by releasing several videos within a short period. Some of the content encouraged violence, while other material focused on criticising Western countries.

The videos and messages were circulated across platforms such as Telegram and RocketChat, with numerous uploads recorded before removal. This reflected the group’s ability to quickly distribute content.

Supporters also used online forums to request financial contributions through messaging tools and automated systems.

ISIS claimed responsibility for attacks in countries including Nigeria, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Somalia, Syria, Niger and Pakistan, indicating continued militant operations globally.
