Russian national emergency services and the city’s mayor stated Saturday that an overnight drone strike on Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, killed six people and injured 10 others.
On Telegram, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service wrote, “Six people were killed and at least 10 injured as a result of an enemy strike”.
In a Telegram post, Kharkiv mayor Igor Terekhov confirmed the same death toll and number of injured, adding that the attack targeted Shevchenkivskyi, the city’s northern area.
Terekhov claimed that Iranian-made drones carried out the attack, which targeted at least nine high-rise buildings, three dorms, and a petrol station.
Oleg Synegubov, the region’s governor, stated previously that two persons were slain in Shevchenkivskyi.
Police confirmed the deaths and reported that eight more persons were treated with blast injuries and shrapnel wounds.
“Among the wounded are two women aged 25 and 52, and six men aged 23 to 76”, police noted.
“A separate attack on Mala Danylivka, a village on the Northwest outskirts of Kharkiv, resulted in no deaths”, police continued.
Police published photos on Telegram showing several fires in civilian areas, including near a high-rise apartment block.
According to the authorities, the attack destroyed several buildings, including apartment units and a petrol station.
The incident occurred as Ukraine’s air force reported numerous groups of Russian drones throughout the nation.
