Monsoon rains in Pakistan have claimed 293 lives and left 564 injured over the past two months, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). The heavy downpours have continued to cause destruction across the country.
Widespread Damage to Infrastructure
The NDMA reports that 19,572 houses have been either partially or fully damaged by the rains. Additionally, 39 bridges and several schools have suffered significant damage. The agriculture sector also took a hit, with 1,077 livestock perishing between July 1 and August 31.
Most Casualties in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
The eastern Punjab province was hit hardest, with 112 deaths and 302 injuries reported due to torrential rains. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa followed, recording 88 deaths and 129 injuries.
The agency has also warned of a fresh spell of moderate to heavy rainfall in the coming days, potentially worsening the situation.
