Supreme Court Asks Allahabad High Court To Hear SP MLA Irfan Solanki’s Petition In 10 Days

Solanki, currently in Maharajganj jail, filed a plea seeking a stay on his conviction to contest the upcoming assembly elections

The Supreme Court has instructed the Allahabad High Court to decide SP MLA Irfan Solanki’s petition within 10 days. Solanki, currently in Maharajganj jail, filed a plea seeking a stay on his conviction to contest the upcoming assembly elections.

A Special MP/MLA Court in Kanpur sentenced Solanki and four others to seven years in prison on June 7, 2024. Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Solanki, argued that the High Court keeps delaying the hearing. The Supreme Court has now urged quick resolution.

Conviction in Arson Case

Irfan Solanki and four others were convicted of burning a house belonging to Nazir Fatima in Defense Colony, Jajmau, Uttar Pradesh. Police registered a case against Solanki, his brother Rizwan, and others on November 8, 2022. The court’s conviction led to Solanki losing his MLA seat.

Samajwadi Party Names Solanki’s Wife as Candidate

After the conviction, the Samajwadi Party declared Irfan Solanki’s wife, Naseem Solanki, as its candidate for the upcoming elections. Solanki lost his MLA post after receiving the seven-year sentence.
