Zomato Faces Fresh GST Demand Notice Of Rs 9.45 Crore
Zomato, the online food delivery platform, got a new Goods and Service Tax (GST) demand notice totaling approximately Rs 9.45 crore, including interest and penalties. The notice, issued by the Assistant Commissioner of Commercial Taxes (Audit), Karnataka, pertains to the fiscal year 2019-20.
In its regulatory filing with the stock exchange, Zomato stated, “The order follows an audit of GST returns and accounts, resulting in a demand of Rs 5,01,95,462 in GST, along with Rs 3,93,58,743 in interest and Rs 50,19,546 in penalties.”

The company expressed confidence in its position, stating, “We believe we have strong grounds and intend to appeal this order before the appropriate authority.”
Zomato shares closed marginally higher at Rs 200.35 following the announcement.
This incident marks the latest in a series of tax notices faced by the food delivery giant. Just last month, it received a GST demand and penalty order exceeding Rs 2 crore from a Delhi sales tax officer, and in April, another notice amounting to Rs 11.81 crore.
Earlier this year, Zomato disclosed similar notices from tax authorities in Delhi and Karnataka regarding alleged GST underpayment in 2018, totaling Rs 4.2 crore.
