By breaking the record for the most movies seen in a theater in a single year, a man from the United States elevated his passion for movies to a new level. Zach Swope broke the previous record of 715 movies watched in 2018 set by Vincent Krohn from France by watching an incredible 777 movies between July 2022 and July 2023.
Swope, 32, began and finished his movie-watching journey with Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and Minions: Rise of Gru. According to a blog post by Guinness World Records, Swope had to watch every movie in order to set the record without interrupting himself with phone calls, sleep, meals, or beverages.
Swope broke the record while maintaining a full-time job. After work, he would visit the theater to see up to three movies, and on weekends, even more. Swope also spent time away from watching movies in order to “recharge” his mind. He planned to see 16 to 17 movies per week.
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish was the movie he saw the most times out of all the ones he saw. He watched this movie 47 times. The Devil’s Conspiracy was his least favorite movie, and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was his favorite.

Given that he has Asperger’s syndrome, a type of autism, Swope made an effort to break this record in order to spread awareness about the disorder. Swope stated, “This was an amazing journey that I dedicated a year of my life to, and it was all for a good cause,” when speaking with Guinness World Records. Who knows, maybe I’ll try to beat my own record when I return?
