United States Called This Day Of August “The Sickest Day” Of Year; But Who So?

A recent study conducted in the United States has declared 24th of August ‘the sickest day’ of the year. This is because a US-based website that tracks the paid time off that workers take at different companies noticed that Americans took a day off on the 24th. The most prominent reason for the day off was sickness.

Data from the past 5 years reveal this about the sickest day

Researchers found that the month of August is the nation’s “sickest” day of the year after analyzing paid ill leave data from various US-based businesses over the previous five years. The report also pointed out that the winter months, which are frequently connected to the cold and flu season, experienced a “more significant drop in attendance” than the late summer.

13 February was the second most common day for Americans to report for work sick, followed by 25 October and 15 December.

What sickness?

54 percent of American workers in the research who reported being absent due to illness claimed having stomach problems, which included food sickness or a stomach bug. 25% of people lost work owing to the COVID-19 virus, 9% took time off for stress or worry, and 6% missed work because of injuries.

54% of Americans chose to notify their employers by text when taking a sick day, including using apps like Slack, WhatsApp, or Messenger. While 33% of employees notified their employers via phone that they would be taking a sick day, 12% of Americans gave their notice by email. Only 2% of employees took sick days without providing any advance notification to their managers.
