Holi travel: The ‘festival of colours’, Holi, is one of India’s most colorful celebrations, observed with great zeal and fervor. It brings joy to life and represents the victory of good over evil as well as the approach of spring. The festival is scheduled for March 25 of this year. Every year, people celebrate Holi with a variety of colors, lively music, quality time with loved ones, and delectable treats. Weeks in advance are spent preparing for the two-day event, which features brightly decorated streets and bustling marketplaces full of people purchasing candy, water pistols, and colored powder (gulal).

This year’s festival, which takes place on a Monday, extends over the weekend and offers visitors a chance to witness the lively fusion of traditional and modern celebration.

Here are the top destinations to celebrate Holi in India:

Mathura, Uttar Pradesh: Barsana in Mathura is centered on Lord Krishna and Radha and is well-known for Lathmar Holi. Traditionally, men dress like Gops and women like Gopis. Playfully using sticks, the women ‘hit’ the men to scare them away while also experimenting with colors.

Phoolwalon Ki Holi is celebrated in Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh, with springtime hues and flowers. At the Bankey Bihari Temple in Vrindavan, it is well-known. Here, Holi is a multi-day celebration. The week-long celebration usually revolves around legends and regional folklore.

West Bengal’s Shantiniketan celebrates the festival with great fervor. Inspired by Rabindranath Tagore, it is also known as Basanta Utsav. In addition to the customary festivities, people can take in dance, poetry, and cultural performances.

Anandpur Sahib, Punjab: In addition to the traditional bright colors, this place celebrates Holi with a Hola Mohalla that includes martial arts exhibitions, fictitious fights between Nihang Sikhs, and more.

Udaipur, Rajasthan: In addition to the vibrant spectacle, the festival is made extra special by the numerous celebrations, parties, and special events held throughout the city. One such celebration is held at City Palace, where the Udaipur royal family takes part in all arrangements and activities.
