“She called me to a specific cafe and forced me to pay hefty bill” is a dating app fraud

Social media users are circulating at least two similar dating app scam stories where men are being forced to pay large restaurant bills.

In one case, a resident of Pune met his date in a nearby bar after finding a match on a dating app. He was astonished to find a ₹10,000 hukka, ₹15,000 wine bottle, and ₹1,500 wine glass—a total of ₹22,000—unaware of the expenses. His date apparently threatened to beat him if he didn’t pay, which made him pay the money.

A twenty-five-year-old boy in Delhi reported that he had been conned out of around ₹15,000 in a similar instance. He went to a pub in Rajouri Garden with his date, where they were given an exaggerated bill of ₹15,886. The victim paid despite problems with his card payment, only to discover later that he had been deceived when the bill vanished and the woman stopped responding to his calls on the dating app.

The total for the drinks she ordered was ₹15,886. discovered it was a fraud. found that a lot of folks are con artists. The X user claimed they have been duped. “@Cyberdost 1930 not working, @DelhiPolice please take action,” the user said.

Six steps you can take to ensure safe online dating

Users are urged to be cautious in their interactions as a result of the alarming growth in these dating app scams. There has been no official remark from Bumble. On the website of the dating app, there are, however, guidelines for safe dating.

1. Gather in a well-lit area. Every time!

2. Let a loved one know where you’re heading. Tell them where, when, and when you’ll be in touch with them in a specific length of time.

3. Exercise due caution. Get their last name, research them, and do your assignments. Additionally, request that they use our photo verification function to get confirmed.

4. Refrain from disclosing personal information about yourself. Don’t divulge details like your home or workplace address right away.

5. Give a pre-screen some time. Offer to talk over the phone or over FaceTime.
