As Valentine’s Day approaches, many companies worldwide are rolling out special offers and deals aimed at celebrating love and companionship. However, one company is taking a unique approach to this holiday by offering solace to those experiencing heartbreak.
British car scrapping company Scrap Car Comparison has introduced a novel Valentine’s Day initiative called “Scrap Your Ex.” This program provides individuals with the opportunity to symbolically move on from past relationships by naming a car destined for the scrap heap after their former partner.
While the concept may seem lighthearted, the intention behind it is to offer a cathartic experience for those navigating the challenging emotions of a breakup. Participants can submit their ex’s name and reasoning online, with selected names being spray-painted on cars before their environmentally responsible recycling.

The online form includes a question prompting applicants to explain why they would like to “Scrap Your Ex” and name an old scrap car after their former partner. All entries must be submitted by Valentine’s Day itself, Wednesday, February 14, 2024, and participants must confirm that they are over the age of 18.
In a news release, the company stated, “Offering a unique form of ‘car-tharsis’ for anyone who has recently gone through a breakup, the ‘Scrap Your Ex’ scheme is open for a limited time to anyone worldwide who wants to discard the memories of a past relationship or even nominate a friend’s ex that deserves to be junked.”
Although the program is open to participants worldwide, the company acknowledges that high demand may limit the number of exes they can scrap this year. Nevertheless, they assure participants that they will do their best to accommodate as many requests as possible. Those fortunate enough to have their exes scrapped will receive photographic evidence of the deed, providing a unique form of closure and healing from heartbreak.
Overall, Scrap Car Comparison’s “Scrap Your Ex” initiative offers a creative and unconventional way for individuals to cope with the aftermath of a breakup, while also promoting environmentally responsible practices in car recycling.
