An important Hindu holiday known as Raksha Bandhan, or Rakhi, honors the unique and unbreakable relationships shared by siblings. Every year, the celebration takes place on the Poornima Tithi (full moon day) of Shravan Maas (the month of the swan).
On this day, siblings honor one another by engaging in a number of traditions. Brothers swear to guard their sisters, love and appreciate them, and present them the gifts they admire, while sisters tie rakhi on their brother’s hands, apply tilak on their foreheads, and pray for their prosperity and long lives. However, brothers now also fasten the rakhi on the hands of their sisters.
By tying Rakhi on each other’s wrists, sisters also commemorate the occasion. You need to be fully aware of this celebration if you and your siblings are remembering the day. Learn more by scrolling through.
Raksha Bandhan falls on August 30 and 31 this year. The two dates are due to Bhadra Kaal, which is a time when Raksha Bandhan rites should not be performed, according to Drik Panchang. So, on these two dates, you can tie the rakhi. The Raksha Bandhan Bhadra Kaal ends on August 30 at 9:01 p.m. You can therefore start performing rituals now. This year, the Raksha Bandhan Bhadra
Mukha will start at 6:31 p.m. and end at 8:11 p.m. on August 30. The Raksha Bandhan Bhadra Poonch will run from 5:30 p.m. to 6:31 p.m. The full moon, or Poornima Tithi, begins on August 30 at 10:58 a.m. and ends on August 31 at 7:00 a.m.
Hindus place a great deal of importance on Raksha Bandhan. One of the myths surrounding this occasion comes from the Mahabharata epic. According to legend, Lord Krishna sliced his finger on the Sudarshan Chakra by mistake. Draupadi noticed this and tore a piece of fabric from her saree, tying it to the wound to halt the bleeding. She made a touching gesture, and Lord Krishna pledged to look out for her always. When the Kauravas attempted to embarrass Draupadi in front of the Hastinapur royal court, he kept his word and prevented her from being publicly humiliated.
