He responded to a widely shared video on Tuesday showing individuals throwing trash into the sea close to Mumbai’s Gateway of India. The business mogul blasted the reckless civic mentality and expressed his rage and dissatisfaction over the people’s actions in the viral video. The video is noteworthy because it shows two guys tossing gunny bags filled with trash—mostly flowers—into the Arabian Sea close to the famous building in south Mumbai.
Just looking at this hurts. If the civic mindset isn’t changed, no amount of physical infrastructure development will be able to raise the standard of living in the city, the author wrote on November 21. He also tagged the Mumbai police and the Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai.

The Mumbai police and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) began looking for the man after seeing the video clip that went viral online. The civic body released a release stating that they had tracked the taxi he had taken to get to the Gateway of India and were able to identify him. The Solid Waste Management Department levied a ₹10,000 fine after tracking him down.
Both public officials and online users responded strongly to the video, calling for the guys to be punished.
One person responded to Mr. Mahindra’s tweet by writing, “Unquestionably, a city’s soul is found in its people’s mindset as much as its physical structures.” The attitude, accountability, and sense of pride that individuals have as a group can significantly improve a city’s quality of life. “Every city should have easy access to properly dispose of garbage, and people should be educated about waste disposal through television, social media, and hoardings,” said a commenter. The government ought to dedicate sufficient funds to rectify this, just as they did when introducing UPI and digital payments.
