A concerned resident of Delhi recently took to social media platform X to voice his dismay over the exorbitant fees charged by his son’s playschool. Akash Kumar, a chartered accountant involved in full-time trading, expressed astonishment that the yearly cost of his son’s playschool education surpassed the entirety of his own educational expenses.
In a post that swiftly went viral, Kumar shared a screenshot of the playschool’s fee structure, accompanied by a caption humorously hoping his son would “learn to play properly” given the hefty fees. For the upcoming academic year 2024-25, the fee breakdown includes a non-refundable registration fee of ₹10,000 and an annual recurring fee of ₹25,000. Additionally, four terms spanning from April 2024 to March 2025 each require a fee payment of ₹98,750, totaling ₹4,30,000 for the academic year.
The post sparked a wave of reactions, with nearly 1 million views and a multitude of comments questioning the correlation between high fees and quality education. Users pondered whether such fees guarantee superior education or merely fund luxurious facilities.
Some users advocated for disruption in the education industry, suggesting that annual playschool fees exceed the starting salaries offered by some multinational companies. Others shared insights from discussions with school owners, highlighting the pressure to provide lavish amenities driven by parental expectations. However, amidst the emphasis on extravagant infrastructure, one user stressed the importance of quality teachers over opulent facilities for delivering the best education.
In essence, Kumar’s post ignited a conversation about the escalating costs of early education and the perceived value of such investments in shaping a child’s educational journey.
