Ms. Swaroop calls prostitution a "cool profession" at the beginning of the video.
India’s stand-up comedy scene has expanded significantly during the past few years. In their free time, a lot of individuals watch these stand-up videos and comedic shows. Some even reserve physical tickets to attend the performances in person. But occasionally, comedians’ quips don’t sit well with the crowd and can upset a sizable portion of them. Similarly, Vidushi Swaroop, a stand-up comedian, is facing harsh criticism on the internet after a video of her referring to prostitution as a “cool profession” went viral. One of her stand-up routines is featured in the now-viral video.
Ms. Swaroop calls prostitution a “cool profession” at the beginning of the video. She continues by talking about the “experience” on the field and how it is unique. The internet was infuriated by her callous comments.
A third individual said, “Shameful.”
“Well, I’m trying to find words for the audience who are laughing,” a user said.
“Prostitution is a topic only ignorant people can joke about. Someone stated, “If she ever had the opportunity to learn about human trafficking, child trafficking, and the cycle of poverty, she would be incredibly ashamed of herself.”
Poet Kumar Vishwas stated on X, the previous Twitter, “This is harsh and inhumane in addition to being stupid. This offensive joke is only a sample of the “stand-up” performances of today, which frequently parody vulgar and cultural ideals. Luckily, no male presenter did this cheesy thing, or otherwise, all the commissions would have become aware of it. Disgrace to those who chuckled.

Still, there were many who backed her as well. Another commenter said, “I think this is a dark comedy that highlights the horrible aspects of prostitution and the depressing truth (the full video is necessary to confirm the intended meaning).” If she isn’t defending it or disseminating false information, there’s nothing wrong with it.”
